This article explains how to reimport files from MS Project and Asta, allowing you to sync your native project planning tool with Geniebelt. Your planning tool will in this way continue to control the schedule, while Geniebelt will manage progress tracking and team communication.
To perform a reimport, you must be a Project leader or Project admin.
Important before using reimport feature:
To ensure Reimport works correctly, you must use the same file as the initial import, as syncing relies on task IDs from your planning tool. Using a copy or modified file may cause errors. If a task is deleted and recreated, it will not match during reimport due to a changed ID.
When using reimport, Geniebelt should only be used for assigning tasks, adding tags, and tracking progress, not for editing dates or structure.
Only Finish-to-Start dependencies are supported, and complex planning structures may not imported correctly.
When reimporting a file, Geniebelt updates your project as follows:
Group and task structure – The hierarchy of groups and tasks is refreshed.
Update existing tasks – Tasks that match by task ID are updated, including:
Name
Start and finish dates
Assignees
Add new tasks – Any task in the reimported file that does not match an existing Geniebelt task will be created as a new task.
Orphaned tasks – Any Geniebelt task that does not match a task in the reimported file will be moved to a group at the bottom of the project called:
"Tasks, milestones, and groups orphaned after re-import [DATE]"
This process ensures that tasks are accurately synced based on their task IDs from your planning tool.
Holiday calendar
You can choose to keep the chosen holiday calendar when doing a reimport.
Dependencies
When reimporting a file, the dependency structure from the file will overwrite any existing dependencies in Geniebelt, including those you may have created in Geniebelt after the initial import.
Geniebelt only supports Finish-to-Start dependencies, and this also applies when performing a reimport.
Progress update
Any progress percentage in the reimport file will be ignored, as Geniebelt is expected to contain the most up-to-date progress.
Baseline
Every time you do a reimport, a new baseline is automatically created.
