Link to another project

Written by Camilla Lekman Hansen

You can link one project in another to display the linked project's status directly inside your current project. This is useful for tracking related projects status without leaving your project.

Create a project link

  • Open the project where you want to display another project's status.

  • Place your cursor where you want the project link to appear. (The link can be moved later if needed.)

  • Click the Hammer icon in the menu.

  • Select Link project.

  • Choose the project you want to link.

  • Click Link project.

The selected project will now appear in your project, including its current status.

Open the linked project

If you are already a member of the linked project, you can open it directly by clicking Open project in the right-hand panel.

Note: The Open project option is only available to users who are members of the linked project. If you cannot open the project, you can join the project from the company page, if you have minimum member access on Company level. You can read more about access roles here.

Remove a project link

To remove the link from your project, click Remove link in the right-hand panel.

Removing the link does not delete the linked project. It only removes the reference from your current project.

Assign team members

You can assign team members to the linked project from the right-hand panel. This assignment is visual only and does not affect the actual linked project.

Note:

  • Assigning a user to a linked project invites them (including an email invitation) to the project that contains the link, not to the linked project itself.

  • Progress updates must always be made directly inside the linked project.

Project description

The description shown for the linked project is only visible within the project where the link has been added. It does not change or appear in the original linked project.

Portfolio integration

If the Portfolio tab is enabled for your account, creating a project link will also create or update a portfolio visualization. Click the picture of the top project in your portfolio to open the view.

If neither project is already part of a portfolio, a new portfolio view is created automatically.

If your project already belongs to an existing portfolio, the linked project will be added to that portfolio instead of creating a new one.

If you cannot find the portfolio, it may already exist. Contact support, and they can help you locate it.

For more information about creating and managing portfolios, see here.

Project progress calculation

When you add a link to another project, your project's overall progress is recalculated.

The linked project's status is included in the progress calculation, so changes made in the linked project will affect the overall progress displayed in your current project.

Read more about how the progress of your project is calculated here.
