Create a baseline
Open the project.
Click the Gantt options icon in the toolbar.
Select Show baseline.
Click Create baseline.
Enter a name for the baseline and save it.
By default, the baseline name includes the date and time it was created, shown in your local time. You can change this to a name that makes the baseline easier to identify.
View a baseline
Click the Gantt options icon in the toolbar.
Select Show baseline.
Select the baseline you want to view.
The saved schedule is displayed as yellow lines beneath the tasks in the Gantt chart, while the corresponding baseline dates are shown in the task side panel.
You can compare the baseline with the current schedule to quickly identify tasks that have:
Moved to an earlier or later date.
Changed duration.
Remained according to the saved schedule.
You can create as many baselines as you need and return to any previously created baseline to compare it with the current project schedule.
We recommend creating a baseline when your project schedule is agreed or when the project starts. This gives you an original schedule to refer back to as the project develops.
You may also want to create a new baseline at key stages of the project, such as:
Before and after significant changes to the project schedule.
When a revised schedule is approved.
At the start of a new project phase.
Creating baselines at these key points makes it easier to compare the current schedule with previous versions as the project progresses.
